Auto Specialties recommends that these pulleys be installed by a qualified mechanic.

1. Loosen water pump pulley bolts and alternator nut. An impact with swivel will be required to loosen alternator nut.

2. Remove belt. Tensioner is accessible from under car. CAUTION: Insure car is properly secured on jack stands before accessing enderside of car.

3. With transmission in first gear and emergency brake applied, remove harmonic balancer bolt. An impact wrench will be required with automatic transmission. Remove harmonic balancer using a 3 prong balancer remover. Remove water pump pulley and alternator pulleys.

4. Install hub of factory harmonic balancer into counter bore of underdrive. Align threaded holes. Keyway orientation not required.

5. Install and hand tighten (3) 1/4" x 1.25" bolts. On 99 GT install (3) 5/16-18 x 1.25" bolts. The 99 GT uses the larger outside bolt pattern on new crank pulley. Factory harmonic balancer does not fully shoulder in underdrive at this point. This insures proper alignment of bolt holes after installation.

6. Apply high temperature silicone sealer to underdrive crank pulley keyway. Install harmonic balancer onto shaft. Torque 12mm x 80mm bolt as follows: 1.) Torque to 75lb/ft. 2.) Back out 1 turn 3.) Torque to 45lb/ft and then tighten an additional 1/4 turn.

7. Remove (3) small bolts and apply Loctite #242 thread lock to threads. Reinstall and torque evenly to 10-12 ft/lbs.

8. Install new water pump pulley, alternator pulley and factory belt. Insure belt is seat properly in all pulleys. Tighten water pump pulley bolts and alternator nut. A 1/2" drive impact with 70-80 psi is required to tighten alternator nut. Insure factory harmonic balancer does not rub on smog pump hose.

9. Start engine. Inspect all pulleys to insure no wobble and that belt is properly installed.
